| Wow I've gotta give some props to my man Klete Keller, that was so crazy how he held Thorpe off in the final leg of that 4x200m relay, amazing, I thought Thorpe had him! And then the American women winning the 4x200m relay tonight and beating the East German world record from 17 years ago! Finally, US swimming is upping its gold totals to an acceptable level, especially after the earlier letdowns... including Ian Crocker and UCSB alum Jason Lezak failing to even qualify for the 100m free finals!(won by van den Hoogenband, best name ever) That was just another embarrassing day to be a Gaucho.... | | |
| Okay, I have to say it, all the Phelps hype has to end. He is not going to break or even tie Mark Spitz's record. Bumping Gary Hall Jr., a veteran who had posted a better 100m time the morning of the race than Phelps had at any time this year, from the 400m free relay was inexcusable and can't be explained, except by admitting that the move was motivated completely by personal bias for Phelps. To give Phelps a shot at eight gold medals, they kicked a more deserving, better performing athlete off the team, and reduced the quality of their relay. Phelps' time in the finals was slower than Hall's was during the prelims that morning. US swimming should be ashamed, and so should the commentators who didn't even point out said facts, but instead made comments such as "I agree with the coaching staff, Michael Phelps should be in this race" without providing a reason for this defenseless assertion. The hype is sickening, and the facts are disregarded in its midst. US swimming has just been a huge disappointment so far. | | |
| Ohhh I'm so pissed the Cardinals lost. I've grown so accustomed to Cardinals' victories that now I get really upset at even one loss, whereas one year ago, one loss after seven consecutive victories would have been more than forgivable. Plus it was to the Florida Marlins, come on, maybe I can understand against the Yankees or even the Braves, but the MARLINS?? In related news, I can definitely feel my basketball game picking up. I definitely plan on playing for money this school year, after all I need to find a second source of income since I only make 300 dollars a month, that's barely enough for ten meals at the Cheesecake Factory! With my renewed perimeter shooting added to Greg's ridiculous 6 foot 4 inch height, we will be unstoppable on the UCSB hardcourt, especially since there's not many black people at my school. | | |
| Hooray for the Olympics starting! They have added two new channels to show all of the Olympic events on Armed Forces Network cable, so now I have NINE channels to choose from! Wow, it's almost like being back in the States.... I watched the entire US - Greece women's soccer match today (which the US won 3-0 of course, Mia Hamm is so awesome), the first event of the Summer Games, I'm so psyched for the Olympics... I mean, being in a foreign country has just heightened my already high level of national pride to a fever pitch!!! Plus I get to watch all the events live, haha I bet all you "US residents" are jealous of that! | | |
| I finally got a haircut today! Much to my chagrin, a barber shop had been opened on base between this summer and last winter break, but my parents apparently did not find it necessary to share this information with me as my hair reached decidedly ridiculous lengths as a result of being neglected for over two months. Other than that, there is this huge lightning storm that's passing through so the electricity periodically drops out for about five minutes at a time. Hooray for lithium batteries! | | |
